During their 2016 Rebrand, Sasaki decided to take a more editorial approach with their marketing collateral. They began this effort by experimenting with the qualification package. They tied the revamp of the qualification package to the pursuit of their new market, urban agricultural planning and design. With their new marketing collateral, Sasaki aimed to convey their expertise regarding alternative food production and transport systems.
The final piece, “Future of Food” features an opening letter from Sasaki’s James Miner, AICP, repurposed articles, Q&A with local growers and food entrepreneurs, images and info-graphics all in an effort to highlight Sasaki’s new market, urban and agricultural planning and design. This piece accompanied a presentation at the 2017 World Design Summit and was distributed to attendees. “Future of Food” continues to be used as a business development tool and is consistently shared with prospective clients.
The new marketing collateral was met with excitement and curiosity, both internally and externally. The revamp of the qualification package resulted in a variety of achievements. Because of their efforts, conversations emerged with existing and potential clients, Sasaki leaders received invitations to speak at high-profile events, and partnerships and even new projects began.
Our SMPS judges selected Sasaki for the Marketing Collateral Award due to the well thought out execution of a rather unique topic. The award acknowledged that the new marketing collateral achieved success outside of just the marketing department. Sasaki’s marketing team not only achieved its internal goal of revamping their marketing collateral but also progressed the firm’s overall goal of developing their new market, urban agricultural planning and design.
