Kirsten is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. Her father, an engineer and former president of Shooshanian Engineering inspired her to get involved in the A/E/C industry. Kirsten has worked at a handful of A/E/C firms before she decided to work for Columbia Construction, where she has been for the last 13 years.
As Director of Marketing, she works in partnership with the marketing team to position and brand the company to increase firm recognition and overall volume of sales. To meet these goals, she collaborates on many initiatives ranging from proposal compilation, interview preparation, direct mail campaigns, and social media and website marketing.
Upon entering the A/E/C industry, she had minimal formal training in Services Marketing and her supervisor insisted that she become involved with SMPS. The organization provided her with vital resources, through its inspiring members as well as its vast education and training programs. Seeing the value of SMPS and how it helped advance her career, she officially became a member in 1997. Shortly thereafter, Kirsten joined the IDEA Committee and transitioned to Committee Chair in 2000. After the IDEA Committee evolved into the Outreach Committee, she continued as Chair until 2005.
In 2012, she made it a goal to obtain the CPSM designation, earning it in 2013. At that time, she decided to join the CPSM Committee, with the aspiration of educating the next generation of marketers, providing them with the means to obtain the CPSM designation as well.
Kirsten is currently the Treasurer, making sure the Chapter thrives and stays on track financially. At the Board level, she is immersed in the goals and values of the Chapter while developing new relationships with other members. She is committed to helping the Chapter in its continued mission to support the development and advancement of SMPS members in the industry.
Fun fact: Kirsten loves being outdoors—whether she’s gardening or hiking in the summer or skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, she always tries to be outdoors. She also enjoys cooking and entertaining. One day Kirsten would love to operate her own bar or bed and breakfast!
