Although Lindsay majored in Political Science at Union College, she quickly realized that she wanted a career in marketing, and went on to receive an MBA in International Marketing from Bryant University. After receiving her MBA, she designed a website/blog to share interviews, recipes, and lifestyle tips, which led to freelancing jobs for brands and lifestyle personalities. Though Lindsay enjoyed what she was doing, she knew that she did not want to continue working in social media, and began applying for marketing jobs in Boston. That’s how she came across a listing for a Communications/PR Specialist at SmithGroup – her first AEC industry marketing position. In that role, she was responsible for developing and managing SmithGroup Boston’s public relations activity, including developing a media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print and online media. She was also responsible for all award and conference submissions, including presentation and interview coaching.
In 2019, Lindsay was promoted to Senior Marketing Coordinator, where she was responsible for producing proposals, qualifications, and other marketing materials. In the Summer of 2021, she was promoted to Marketing Manager for SmithGroup’s East region. As Marketing Manager, Lindsay oversees the proposal and interview workload for SmithGroup’s Boston and Washington DC offices. She leads a team of talented proposal coordinators and proposal specialists in helping to promote and grow the firm to successfully win work creatively.
Lindsay’s involvement with SMPS began with attending an SMPS Boston summer event. Her colleague who was planning to accompany her had to cancel, and Lindsay was instead faced with attending an event where she didn’t know a single person – she almost didn’t go herself! Luckily, someone from the Special Events Committee came up to chat, and they ended up hanging out for the majority of the event. Within the next week, Lindsay joined SMPS and signed up as a volunteer for the Special Events Committee. Now, as the Director of the Special Events Committee, she works with the committee to plan and run the Annual Awards Gala, Fall Night Out, and Holiday Party.
The thing that Lindsay values most about her SMPS experience is meeting so many people who “get it” – colleagues she can connect with, who understand what it’s like to work in AEC marketing. Most of all, SMPS has given her a sense of confidence in explaining and understanding the role that marketing brings to winning work and building longstanding relationships with clients.
When she isn’t busy with her work at SmithGroup or leading the SMPS Boston Special Events Committee, Lindsay is even busier at home – she’s a new mom! As a new parent, she foresees a lot of Cocomelon and Blippi in her future. She sees experiencing the world through her son’s eyes as the most incredible experience in the world.
