Suzanne King’s journey to successful A/E/C marketer started upon her graduation from Simmons College with a B.S. in Nutrition. (Just like your parents always told you, the path to a great career begins with proper nutrition.)
Like many of us, Suzanne made her way to the A/E/C marketing world gradually. Her first job out of college was a very challenging one. Suzanne was full of energy and great ideas, but immediately had her hands full in trying to “market” healthy lifestyles to skeptical elderly people at hospitals and assisted living facilities. Eventually, Suzanne’s career evolved from a nutrition-focused role with a sales/marketing twist to the other way around. She became a sales rep for a low-cost juice mix, and soon found she was a hit with potential customers. Unfortunately, the juice mix was not. With many lessons learned from these experiences, Suzanne decided that sales and marketing were her future, not nutrition. That’s how she found her way to Mass. Electric Construction Co., which she joined as a Marketing Coordinator in 2005.
In her work with Mass. Electric, Suzanne stays busy juggling a lot of different tasks. She helps technical staff download project information from their mental “databases,” writes compelling newsletters, builds persuasive presentations, and plans events and parties-often, all in a single day! Suzanne was promoted to Business Development Coordinator in 2007, and she loves the fact that she gets to interact constantly with everyone in the company.
Suzanne joined SMPS Boston in 2011, after a former co-worker raved to her about the organization and how beneficial membership had been. One year later, she noticed a call for members to join the Communications Committee, and she soon became a vital member of that team. Suzanne then became a CPSM, after a few months of dedicated studying, and she is very proud to have earned the credential. She served the Boston Chapter as Secretary and is currently serving as President.
When Suzanne has the rare break from marketing up a storm, she heads to Abilene, Texas to visit her beloved nieces. She also enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, whipping up dishes both nutritious and delicious!
