Call for SMPS Boston Board Nominations

The call for nominations to fill Executive Committee roles and Director-at-Large positions on the SMPS Boston Chapter Board of Directors is now open! This is your opportunity to contribute your ideas in shaping and growing one of the largest SMPS chapters. 

SMPS Boston is seeking qualified and energetic people to take a leadership role in developing and advancing the Chapter’s education, networking, and business development opportunities for its members. This is a great opportunity to work with current and future Marketing and Business Development leaders. Serving as a BOD member can help advance your career, bring visibility to your firm, and create valuable and lasting connections.

The following positions are open on the 2020 – 2021 Board of Directors. Each position will serve a two-year term from 9/1/20 – 8/31/22, with the exception of the Vice President/President-Elect, who will serve a three-year term from 9/1/20 – 8/31/23. Terms start on September 1. However, the incoming board will meet approximately three times during the summer for training, strategic planning and goal setting for the upcoming program year.

Vice President/President-Elect: Chosen for vision and leadership abilities, the President-Elect automatically advances to the position of President, then remains on the Board for the third year as Immediate Past-President. The President-Elect is also a member of the Executive Committee. In addition, the President-Elect shall have all of the powers and be subject to the same restrictions as President. To be eligible for election as President-Elect, the individual must have been a member for at least one (1) year and also have served on the Board of Directors or as a committee chair for at least one (1) year.

Operations Director/(prev. Secretary)

The Operations Director position is a member of the Executive Committee and serves as the recorder for the Chapter and ensures minutes are taken, recorded, and distributed at all board and executive committee meetings. This role is responsible for maintaining the Chapter’s bylaws and the facilitation of Chapter correspondence.

Attendance at monthly board meetings is essential and critical.

The  Operations Director shall ensure that the minutes of meetings of the membership, the Board, and the Executive Committee as well as these Bylaws, and any policies and procedures approved by the Chapter and the Society are recorded and maintained in the permanent record of the Chapter. The Operations Director shall perform any other such duties as from time to time may be assigned by the President or the Board.

Director-at-Large Positions (4): In each of these positions, one must be willing to lead in the creation and management of programs, events, and goals of one of the Chapter’s standing committees for a two-year term. Attendance at monthly board meetings is essential and critical, as the director acts as the liaison between the board and the committee. Qualified candidates must be a current, regular member of SMPS and would have experience as an active committee member for at least one year. The Nominations Committee, led by the current Vice President/President-Elect, will assign each new Director-at-Large to a committee. We are currently looking to fill Director-at-Large positions for the following committees

CPSM Committee Director: SMPS, the recognized leader in education and information for marketing professional services, offers a credential that recognizes achievement in marketing expertise – Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). SMPS Boston established the CPSM Committee in 2012 to ensure that our Chapter stays at the leading edge of professionalism. Study groups meet monthly beginning in the Fall and end in the Spring and the study group sessions are free of charge. Committee members are current CPSMs with a desire to mentor others toward achieving this credential. The Director must be a current CPSM in good standing.

Professional Development Committee Director: The Professional Development Committee focuses on advancing the personal and professional development of members and non-members, marketers, and technical staff in the built environment by providing marketing-focused educational programs. The Committee works to advance the Chapter’s goal of providing education.

Outreach Committee Director: The Outreach Committee is responsible for building awareness of SMPS Boston and its members as a leading resource for business development and marketing expertise in the AEC industry. It does this by developing strategic relationships with peer industry organizations to provide educational programming and networking opportunities to the SMPS membership. The Outreach Committee is also responsible for the Chapter’s booth presence each fall at the ABX conference.

Membership Committee Director: The Membership Committee supports new and current members alike, nurtures as many members as possible, and encourages Chapter enrollment through organizing membership drives, networking events, SMPS recruiting efforts, personal welcome efforts, and aiding with member retention. The Committee works to advance the Chapter’s goal of strengthening membership as a whole, as well as statistical numbers and “outside of the box” thinking for anniversary celebrations.

All committees are led by the Director, with support provided by the Committee Chair and the committee volunteers.

Your nomination should include the following:

  • Professional Data: Employer, address, telephone, email, job title and primary responsibilities, number of years in marketing, history in the A/E/C industry, and professional accomplishments.
  • SMPS participation: Leadership roles and number of years as a member.
  • Statement: Include what you will contribute to the board, why you want to serve, your special goals and interests, and your views on current SMPS issues.
  • Consent: Letter from a principal/officer of your firm indicating the firm’s support for your participation on the Board of Directors.

Individual nominations will be screened and evaluated by the Nominations and Elections Committee according to parameters and procedures established by the Board. A slate of candidates will be selected that the Committee believes represents the best balance for the Board.

For the past 5 years, Lisa’s role as Director of Business Development and Marketing at AGC MA has been to increase AGC’s engagement and relevance with member CM’s, GC’s, Subcontractors, and Service Providers by implementing and overseeing innovating new communications and social media strategies & tools. She oversees public relations for and marketing of all Chapter news, and develops and implement educational and informational events, programs and activities through the chapter committees. Lisa is currently serving as President of SMPS Boston and has a BA in International Marketing from the University of Phoenix and and MS in Business and International Marketing from Boston University.
