This workshop will provide you an opportunity to discuss your marketing challenges with the last three SMPS Marketers of the Year Recipients, Kate Shoss, Susan Shelby, and Laurie Strickland. The roundtable, speed dating set up of this workshop will allow you to vet your challenges with our local marketing leaders in a small communicative setting. There will also be a focus on goal setting and how to help monitor your next ‘resolutions’ through the new year.
Each speaker will visit each table for 15 minutes and at this time you will have the opportunity to present your challenges get some great advice. So don’t forget to come prepared with things you have struggled with throughout the year. Kate, Susan, and Laurie are here to help!

Kate directs all marketing efforts including brand strategy and implementation, public relations, industry and special events, social media, digital marketing and awards for The Bulfinch Companies, Inc. a commercial real estate investment firm in Needham, MA. Prior to her role at The Bulfinch Companies Inc., Kate was the Director of Marketing and Senior Associate at ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge (ARC), a Boston-based architecture firm where she worked for over a decade overseeing all marketing efforts including implementation of brand identity, creation of marketing collateral, RFP management, public relations outreach, awards submission and oversight of digital marketing efforts.
Kate has been an active member of SMPS Boston for 13 years serving on the Special Events Committee for more than 10 years. She has also participated in numerous panels and conferences. Kate was honored as the 2017 SMPS Marketing Professional of the Year for her contributions and leadership within the industry. Kate is also actively involved in the real estate industry, participating in such organizations as NAIOP, CoreNet and IFMA. She currently is a member of the NAIOP Marketing and Membership Committee working to provide strategic support and creative input to NAIOP campaigns and initiatives.
Laurie Strickand has 30+ years of experience in marketing engineering firms. As Director of Marketing and part of the corporate management team at Nitsch Engineering, her responsibilities include facilitating the firm’s overall marketing operations, developing and implementing the marketing plan in alignment with the strategic plan, providing strategic overview of market conditions and identifying new business opportunities, and branding and building Nitsch Engineering’s corporate image both internally and externally.
Laurie is a Fellow of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). She has served for more than 30 years on SMPS committees locally and nationally, and for five years on the Boston Board of Directors, including President of the Chapter in 2008. Laurie is currently a Fellows Chapter Champion for both the Boston and Northern New England chapters, and also a member of the SMPS Boston Past President and Founders Advisory Group.
