Strategic Marketing Executive

Acentech is a leading Acoustics, Vibration, AV, IT and Security consulting firm, employing 75 people in Cambridge, MA (headquarters), Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, Charlottesville, VA, and Los Angeles, CA. Acentech has provided world-class consulting services for more than 60 years, dating back to its origins at Bolt, Beranek and Newman. Acentech is wholly owned by its employees, with majority ownership held by an employee stock ownership plan.

The Strategic Marketing Executive (SME) is a Principal-level position and a critical part of Acentech’s leadership team. The SME will participate in the firm’s business strategy process; develop marketing and business development (BD) goals, strategies, and methods; and direct marketing and BD activities. The SME will work to advance Acentech’s long-term goals of developing high-impact clients and projects, and of maintaining and improving its positive, employee-centered corporate culture. Acentech leadership has identified several strategic initiatives for the coming years, including transcending its regional identities to forge a national firm identity. The SME will help to prioritize, develop, and pursue these and other business goals. The SME will report to the President and will present regular updates to the Board of Directors. The title associated with this position will be determined and will be consistent with other top-level leaders reporting to the President.

Business Strategy

  • Work with other firm leaders to develop and refine firm business strategy, including marketing and BD goals
  • Establish, communicate and implement marketing and BD strategy relative to firm strategic goals
  • Collaborate with technical consulting staff and market sector teams
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with leaders in the A&E industry and related fields to inform and support firm strategy

Marketing Leadership

  • Oversee messaging and presentation of marketing collateral, website, social media, proposals, and public-facing documents and presentations, in coordination with market sector teams
  • Conduct market research, possibly with the help of outside resources, to inform strategy and related issues
  • Provide direction and oversight to marketing staff (currently 3) who produce and maintain these materials, respond to requests for qualifications, and pursue opportunities for firm promotion
  • Streamline and improve proposal process for major project opportunities

Business Development Oversight

  • Represent the firm at the highest level to clients, peer organizations, and business associates
  • Work with BD staff and vertical market leaders to develop BD goals and priorities
  • Provide direction and oversight to BD staff
  • Facilitate major go/no-go decisions: assess major potential pursuits relative to firm strategy
  • Maintain connections and solicit feedback to help us maintain our high level of service to our clients

Management Responsibilities

  • Develop, justify and manage budgets for marketing and BD activities, and evaluate their return on investment
  • Lead, manage and mentor the marketing, BD, and admin teams dedicated to the above activities
  • Coach and inspire all staff, including consulting technical staff, on effective marketing and BD practice


Experience and Education

  • 10+ years of industry-related experience, including leadership positions
  • College degree in relevant field
  • Experience with digital marketing and SEO
  • Willing to travel and work non-traditional hours on occasion
  • Active in industry organizations

  • Thorough understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures

  • Fluency in current business tools, such as online conferencing, electronic document production, social media, CRM, and project and budget management tools
