Member Information:

Name: Christina Cuevas

Company: John Turner Consulting, Inc.

Title: Marketing Director

Years Involved in SMPS: 6

Committee: Communications Committee. I am currently SMPS Boston’s Facebook manager and have also provided graphic design support in the past.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

Become involved with a committee – it’s a great way to get to know other marketers within this industry and to stay involved with SMPS Boston on a regular basis.

What was your favorite SMPS event to date?

My favorite SMPS events are the regional conferences. I have been to NERC in Boston and Saratoga Springs, and am looking forward to the upcoming Providence conference. These are fabulous opportunities, not just for networking, but for learning and expanding your everyday marketing skills.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Red is my favorite color. To me, it represents strength, determination, and passion. I started out in the AEC industry as an admin, and worked my way up into marketing as an assistant, then coordinator, then manager, and now director. To further my career and expertise, I went back to school for a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and graduate certificate in marketing, all while working full-time and managing my family and home.

How has your SMPS membership benefitted your career?

I have learned so much about marketing and business development from the events I’ve attended. This was particularly useful when our office was in the process of hiring a new Business Development Leader and I stepped in to assist our client leaders. It has also provided a springboard for networking with fellow marketers and potential clients. Finally, I’ve been able to use some of my skills/interests that I don’t utilize often at work to help SMPS. It’s been a great outlet and allows me to keep my skills from becoming rusty!

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

First of all, DO IT. Second, join a committee and/or attend events. You only get as much as you put into your membership!

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?

I run a theater company with two of my friends called The Opposite of People. It’s dedicated to providing accessible, affordable, and unique theater experiences to the greater Boston area.
