Why did you decide to join SMPS?

I had been attending SMPS events, paying non-member pricing for almost a year.  It became very evident that the cost of membership actually paid itself.  At ABX ‘18 BWA took advantage of the membership special SMPS was offering and officially joined SMPS.  Besides it being cost effective to join SMPS, the educational and networking activities was what drew me to SMPS so attending as a member makes me an active part of the SMPS community.

What was your favorite SMPS event to date?

SMPS offers professional development opportunities, fun relationship building activities and inspiring volunteer experiences.  Volunteering at ABX’19 was a great learning experience, being exposed SMPS on new level was great.  SMPS Days of Service made for rewarding volunteer experiences at Rosie’s Place and Dress for Success, can’t wait for the opportunity again this spring.

What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

The last thing I watched was RIGGED on Amazon Prime.  I choose to watch it in support of the Youth Ministry that I volunteer with at my church.  We are honoring Black History month with a presentation on Voting Rights.  RIGGED is an informative documentary on the history of the fundamental right to vote and the importance empowering young voters to exercise their right to vote, in every election.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

Do it! Working as non-technical staff in a technical industry can feel isolating at times, and being a part of the SMPS community can help keep you sane.

What was your favorite SMPS event to date?

I really enjoyed this year’s events at Dress for Success and Rosie’s Place. It can be hard in the chaos of life to find time to give back, so I’m loving the opportunities SMPS has been providing lately to network and volunteer at the same time.

What do you work toward in your free time?

This winter, I’m learning to ski. I grew up in the Midwest, which is probably why I’m so fascinated by mountains. Now that I live out here, I want to be able to enjoy them year-round. I did my first double black diamond last weekend- and I only fell once!
