What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

Go ahead and join! I promise you it is not another task on your endless to-do list. Rather it is a priceless networking and learning opportunity. For me, it’s a constant reminder as to why I decided to work in the AEC industry in the first place.

What is your favorite part about being a marketer in the A/E/C industry?

Hands down my favorite part of my job is storytelling. Whether it’s helping a colleague put their design vision into words or telling a project team member how much the client’s eyes lit up when they saw their new space for the first time, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to communicate to my teammates that what they do matters.

What is your favorite screen-time break activity at work?

I like to turn any meeting that doesn’t involve a screen into a walking meeting. I love walking the city of Boston and trying a new coffee place with a colleague. Sometimes the only thing you need to reignite your creativity is to break away from your desk and take a walk.

Title: Corporate Marketing Manager

Years Involved in SMPS: 15

Committee: Director, Outreach Committee

Personal SMPS-Related Awards: Volunteer of the Year, 2019

Why did you decide to join SMPS?

I joined SMPS because it was a condition of employment when I was hired. Having been unemployed/underemployed for several months at that point, I readily agreed, having never heard of the association. I’m now very glad I did.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

I’ll say the same thing that a dear friend told me not long after I joined: “You need to join a committee!!” (emphasis intended).

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?

In addition to my “interesting” and varied professional career, I have also fought wildfires in Utah, run a chair lift at a ski area for the winter and skied Tuckerman’s Ravine several times. Oh, and I’ve ridden a shovel down a ski slope.
