Why did you decide to join SMPS?

When I was beginning my career as an A/E/C marketer, my mentor and one of the SMPS Boston chapter founders, Jean Valance, encouraged me to join the organization to network and learn from both veterans in the business as well as my peers.

How has your SMPS membership benefitted your career?

I have met so many amazing people throughout my years as a member, folks that are still my friends today after 24 years in the biz!  I learned so much from participating in the educational seminars and even when I moved on to planning the Boot Camp, I never stopped learning something from those who taught and took the classes.  A/E/C Marketing was really an emerging career when I started, and we were all learning and growing together. Also, the networking has been really professionally productive and personally fulfilling.

What is something about your job, other than money, that has inspired you to keep working there?

I really enjoy the comradery and the feeling of being part of a team or teams that are all rowing together toward a common goal or outcome.  Whether it is within my own marketing group of five, or helping other parts of our company such as our development group, construction company or leasing team get the job done, I am most fulfilled when I am able to contribute my creativity or strategic thinking to elevate a solution.

Why did you decide to join SMPS?

In my senior year of college at the University of Mary Washington, I applied to the College of Business Alumni Mentorship program. My mentor then and to this day was from MA, working in Marketing and Business Development and within the AEC industry. Anne Crowe-Kroger (President of Kroger Grant Consultants) suggested I check out SMPS as she thought it could provide me with a network of connections as well as an understanding of marketing in the AEC industry.

Fortunately, I secured a marketing opportunity with Resource Options, Inc. (ROI) prior to graduating college. I was only two months into my career when I joined SMPS Boston and I must say, it was one of the best decisions! Not only have I attended networking events and career development opportunities, I have met amazing people and continue to build a great network, as well as have been an active member on the Outreach Committee.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?

JOIN! And don’t just join to have a membership or to say you are a part of an association. Become actively involved. Join a committee, attend networking events, and say yes to every opportunity SMPS presents you. The connections, fresh ideas, and all of the support from like-minded leaders are invaluable experiences that will help build your career as a marketer in the AEC industry. The more you network, the more you’ll grow and learn how to make lasting connections.

What is something about your job, other than money, that has inspired you to keep working there?

It’s inspiring to be a part of a growing company like Resource Options, Inc. (ROI).

In 2019, we launched the new ROI logo and it has been an honor to be at the forefront of rebranding the entire company. Creating a new roadmap to choose, prioritize, plan and execute projects to influence client and candidate action, while continuing to build the ROI brand and relationships both internally and externally has been nothing, but exhilarating. It makes you feel like you’re starting from the bottom and spearheading a fresh new and unique approach; something not everyone gets to experience. This opportunity to think like an entrepreneur and create a career I enjoy is something I value.

Through working at a smaller company, I tend to wear many hats. The split role of Marketing and Internal Recruiting has allowed me to streamline and manage all of our marketing efforts as well as identify, recruit and hire internal employees. It’s exciting to recruit new internal staff members who are eager and motivated to contribute to ROI’s success and culture.

That very same motivation is what drove me to join SMPS and all of it ties into together because I love building relationships within ROI and the AEC industry.
