Last week 40 of our chapter volunteers came together at SMPS Boston’s 7th Annual Town Hall. We gathered to talk about where we see the future for marketing and business development professionals in A/E/C and how SMPS Boston can support our members and help their firms succeed. Earlier this year we introduced the Chapter’s new Three Year Strategic Plan and used Town Hall as an opportunity to share how each committee is helping the chapter achieve its goals. The executive committee shared its vision for how the chapter can help its members grow as leaders; the membership committee shared how the chapter is celebrating members with the launch of a new anniversary program that recognizes membership milestones at 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of membership; and the CPSM committee shared how the chapter is helping its most experienced members ascend to Fellow, a designation that recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the profession of marketing and business development in the A/E/C industries and to the Society. These are just a few of the updates that were shared.
As with the six Town Hall events before, the most valuable part of the evening was hearing ideas about what more we could be offering our members. We had a broad range of experience levels represented – from 1 year in the industry to 25 years of industry experience – and the ideas generated will help the chapter continue to grow its range of member experiences in order to meet the unique needs of each stage of a member’s career. We will be using the ideas and feedback offered to help shape the questions on the annual member survey coming out later this spring.
SMPS Boston is fortunate to have a large committed base of volunteers. It is because of our strong volunteer base that the chapter was able to put on 56 events last year and offer our members over 50 CEUs and 65 hours of networking.
In celebration of National Volunteer Week, I ask you to join me in thanking our chapter volunteers. It is because of their dedication and hard work that we enjoy being a part of one of the largest SMPS chapters in the country.
